MoTest
Figured out how to do the effect below. (blob with creases) Should be displacement textures, cloner, and metaball. You cant see the creases in the low-res video, but they're pretty similar

Rough Shot List
INT. HOME:
Begins with the close up of the phone
A macro shot of PROTAGONIST straightening the pens on the table (OCD)
Pulls back, revealing phone and table.
Cuts to a shot of character scratching neck, biting nails (a gesture caused by stress)
Full shot revealing his surroundings.
he attempts to relax and calm down
The phone rings.
EXT. ALLEY:
The moment the phone rings, he finds himself outdoors, sitting in the same chair, same position, next to the same table. (surreal)
he reacts to the first location (confused and surprised, senses that something is wrong)
Spots something small emerging
As he suspiciously turns around, he finds himself back home again.
HOME
Once again surprised, he tries to shake it off, but begins to show some minor signs of stress (Leg shaking etc.)
Cuts to the shot of his stressful gesture (close up) (stress triggers another transition of location)
ALLEY
As camera pulls back, he is once again in the alley.
The previous object/element he spotted is now visibly growing. He's unsure whether to be alarmed until this "unkown" begins to interact with him. As he reacts (relatively frightened) to the touch of this "unkown," he finds himself back home again.
HOME
He eventually looses control of his emotions and the stress quickly takes over, causing him to begin rocking his head back and fourth along with other stressful gestures. (Stress overload, unable to cope)

As his head rocks back, the scene reveals that he is no longer home.
ALLEY
This unkown element begins to fill the entire frame, coming out of the ground, sewer pipe, walls etc.
He flounders uncontrollably in extreme fear of this "beast"

Cuts to shot of phone. (revealing that this stressful episode was merely a fearful hallucination caused by his fear of the unkown).

Protagonist Example 1
I thought House would be a good example because he has a sophisticated vibe while at the same time looking on edge enough to be insane. He looks worn out by stress, but still looks clean enough to be excessively OCD.
the "troubled" look feels pretty appropriate for someone who is constantly going through internal stress caused by ocd and a severe introverted personality
This guy looks like he could be a serial killer
So does this guy. He looks like his inability to cope with hte world outside his own is pushing him to be on the brink of insanity

Rough Script
The scenes described in this script will be cut together similar to the video sketch with intensity of the edits increasing over time.

1. Man sitting in his house, trying to relax. Everything around him is neatly organized.
2. Insert of him adjusting something small out of place.
3. The phone sitting behind him rings.
4. A monster-like form is reaching out of the phone towards him.
5. He turns to look at the phone but the monster is gone.

6. The man is sitting at a metro stop
7. The monster is creeping around him covering the ground under the bench and part of the bench itself.
8. The monster is reaching out and touches the man.
9. The guy recoils in fear, the monster tendril pulls back slightly but then moves closer.

11. The monster is very close and all around him.
12. The man is trying to ignore the monster but is very scared.
13. The monster closes in more.

More Inspiration
For this one I really like the shapes, the limited color palette, and the organic/abstract nature of it
If you can skip about halfway through this one to see the cool editing and audio reactive design stuff. I really like to color of this one too.
This one has great post effects, color correction, editing, etc. I also really like the animation (timing, anticipation, scale, etc.) the 3D is nice too but probably not what we'd be doing. And man do I really like the TYPE in this one!
